Petbarn generative AI Design Sprint
Petbarn and Greencross Vets partnered with Time Under Tension to explore how generative AI could transform their business operations across Australia's largest pet care network.
The Challenge
As leaders in pet retail and veterinary services, Petbarn and Greencross Vets needed to understand how generative AI could drive efficiency and innovation across their diverse business functions. With operations spanning retail, veterinary care, supply chain, and corporate services, they required a structured approach to identify and prioritise the most impactful AI opportunities.
Our Approach: The AI Design Sprint
We kicked off with our proven four-week AI Design Sprint methodology. The first week comprised an Inform session where we showcased examples of how generative AI is being used by other retailers.
The following week we ran a Design Workshop, where Jason Ross and I facilitated an intensive session with stakeholders from across the business.
The workshop used our proprietary design methods and exercises to systematically uncover generative AI use cases. We brought together teams from marketing, HR, finance, supply chain, facilities, and operations to ensure we captured opportunities across the entire organisation. Through collaborative ideation and hands-on exercises, participants learned to think creatively about AI applications whilst grounding ideas in practical business needs.
The Results
The workshop identified 12 high-priority use cases spanning the entire business, from customer-facing marketing initiatives to backend operational efficiencies. These weren't just theoretical ideas, they were concrete opportunities documented in an AI Roadmap that the teams could immediately begin implementing.
The next phases of the Sprint will bring one of these priority use cases to life through a functional proof of concept, demonstrating the real-world feasibility and impact of AI for the pets and vets businesses.
Working with passionate teams who genuinely care about improving pet care (and aren't afraid of a good pet pun) made this workshop particularly enjoyable. We're excited to help Petbarn and Greencross Vets continue their AI journey.
