How can AI make your product information easier to find and trust?
AI can help teams find answers across product manuals, specifications and diagrams, provided it can identify the right product and work from reliable source information. Peak Products, developed by Time Under Tension, brings that information together so people can ask a normal question without first knowing where to look.
We spend a lot of time inside businesses talking to teams about where AI could make their work better, and one problem keeps coming up: someone needs an answer about a product, the information exists somewhere, but finding the right version quickly is much harder than it should be.
It might be buried in a 200-page manual, sitting in a spreadsheet maintained by another team, or duplicated across several systems with nobody entirely sure which version is current. The organisation has invested in creating the information, yet the person who needs it still has to become a part-time detective.
Why is product information so hard to find?
Product information becomes difficult to use when it is spread across documents and systems, with inconsistent identifiers, formats and versions. Knowing that an answer exists is not much help if you cannot work out which source applies to the product in front of you.
Across our client design workshops, around one third have surfaced use cases directly related to product information. That is an observation from our own workshops, rather than an industry-wide statistic, but its recurrence across retail, manufacturing, financial services, automotive and consumer goods has been striking.
Imagine working in customer service when someone calls about a product they bought five years ago. They do not know the model number, so you need to identify the version, establish whether it has been superseded, and find the troubleshooting instructions that actually apply.
Or imagine being a technician looking for one relevant diagnostic procedure inside a long technical manual. In both cases, searching is only part of the job; deciding whether the result is the right answer takes knowledge and judgement as well.
What do teams need from AI product search?
Teams need a way to ask everyday questions and receive answers grounded in relevant product information. In our workshops, the requests are usually about completing a task, rather than introducing another database.
We hear from people who need consistent attributes across their product range, or one place to find information about pricing, packaging, innovation and deleted products. Others want to identify compatible parts from an image, locate fitting instructions, or compare products using several technical and commercial requirements together.
These are examples of the needs teams bring to us, and they help explain why a search box alone is rarely the whole answer. Most organisations already have databases, document libraries and product systems; the gap sits between storing information and making it useful at the moment somebody needs it.
Can you just upload your product manuals to ChatGPT?
Uploading a small set of manuals to an AI assistant can be a useful starting point, but a large enterprise product library introduces additional questions about product identity, source authority and document versions.
The challenge changes when you move from one manual to hundreds of specification sheets, service bulletins, diagrams, product images and price lists. The system needs to establish which product the question refers to, which information applies, and whether the answer sits in text, a table or a diagram.
This is where I think businesses can underestimate the work involved, because an impressive answer from one document makes the larger problem look almost solved. At scale, the quality of the information and the way it is organised become central to whether people can rely on the result.
General AI assistants remain useful tools, but making product knowledge consistently accessible requires attention to the material they are working with as well as the model itself.
What is Peak Products and how does it work?
Peak Products is a product intelligence capability developed by Time Under Tension for organisations with complex product ranges, technical documentation and fragmented product information. It enables natural-language questions across manuals, specifications, diagrams and other source material, with answers grounded in trusted product information.
We developed it after finding ourselves solving variations of the same problem with clients. Peak Products creates a structured layer across product information, helping the system understand what a piece of content is, which product it belongs to and where a relevant answer is likely to come from.
A product can be recognised through identifiers such as a model number, barcode or internal reference. The system can also distinguish between content types, including troubleshooting procedures, specification tables, warranty clauses, assembly diagrams and product images.
That structure matters because a warranty clause and an assembly diagram serve very different purposes, even when they describe the same product. Recognising those differences gives the system a more useful starting point than treating everything as interchangeable documents.
What could this change for your team?
Making product knowledge easier to access can reduce the searching and reconciliation involved in customer service, technical support and content creation. The practical value depends on the quality of the source material and how well the capability fits the team's work.
For a customer service representative, it could mean finding an answer without first knowing which internal system holds it. A newer employee could draw on product knowledge that previously depended on years of experience, while a technician could ask for a relevant diagnostic step within a much larger manual.
Marketing teams could use verified specifications as the starting point for comparisons and campaign content, with less manual reconciliation between source documents. These are useful places to test the approach, because the question is concrete: does it help someone complete real work with less effort and greater confidence?
How can Time Under Tension help?
Time Under Tension works with organisations to turn practical AI use cases into capabilities their teams can use. We are an OpenAI Services Partner and a Microsoft Partner, and Peak Products is a capability we have developed around a recurring client need.
For organisations exploring implementation, our prebuilt AI solution components explain the broader approach to building from repeatable capabilities. A useful starting point is to identify the product questions your team struggles with and the source information needed to answer them.
If that sounds familiar, get in touch with Time Under Tension. The opportunity is to make the product knowledge you already have useful in the moments when a customer, colleague or technician is waiting for an answer.
