Introduction

A group of people gathered in a rustic, modern conference room with high ceilings, wooden beams, large windows with black shades, and black-and-white portraits on the walls. They are attending a presentation, with a man speaking in front of a screen.

We were recently engaged to facilitate a two week AI Design Sprint Zero™ for a client. The client objectives lined up perfectly with the core outcomes of AI Design Sprint Zero™ - Inform and inspire the business, Design “golden use cases” where generative AI can play a transformational role and Create a functional Proof of Concept (PoC).

Inform & Inspire the Business

(Days 1 to 2)

A digital infographic with an iceberg theme represents AI development stages, with labels such as AI generated code, AI generated voice, video, music, 3D spaces, using plugins, and building AI-powered apps, varying from easy to complex. To the right, a room features colorful elephants, with overlay text discussing hallucinations, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property issues related to AI.
A presentation slide showing two sections. The left section discusses how Generative AI is changing work with six demonstrations, including virtual avatars, user stories, interview insights, clients, teams, and personal projects. The right section highlights VoiceUX, showcasing a series of smartphone screens demonstrating voice interaction features, with the word 'Infection' printed below and around the screens.

The starting point, like many of our client engagements, was to run Inform sessions. These sessions inspire and provide a broad view of the evolving generative AI landscape, ensuring all workshop delegates are 'up to speed' on the latest developments.

The deep dive sessions take it a step further, showcasing how generative AI is transforming businesses from various business perspectives - client, team, and personal. We explore the transformation of both roles and functions, using live demos and videos to illustrate practical use cases.

Learn & Design with AI

(Days 3 to 5)

Left side: outdoor view of a waterfront restaurant or cafe near a bridge, with glass doors and tables outside. Right side: indoor conference or seminar room filled with people seated at tables, listening to a speaker at the front, with photos on the walls and a large screen.

Location, Location, Location!

If the "Location, Location, Location!" principle applies to workshops, then this client certainly knows how to pick them. The workshop was held at the sublime Bangarra Dance Theatre in Walsh Bay, hosting 50 team members in a stunning venue that was perfect for sparking creativity. We kicked off with an engaging icebreaker, as any effective workshop should.

Note: these sessions can also be run remotely

A collage with three documents. The first and second are text-heavy documents in blue, white, and green themes, listing HR-related challenges and solutions. The third is a bright blue exercise worksheet titled "Exercise (part 1)", with instructions for a task involving ChatGPT and a paragraph on challenges and opportunities from clients and teams. In the center, a large black arrow with yellow outline points to the right, with the word "RESEARCH" inside it.

Researching with ChatGPT

The team were then introduced to the first exercise which required some researching. They were also given an introduction to researching with ChatGPT, to assist them with the exercise.

A collection of paper notes with handwritten text and printed worksheets on a wooden surface, and a slide presentation titled "Business Challenges & Opportunities (Themes)" with information on themes like HR software, data management, resource & time management, and knowledge & training, connected by a yellow arrow labeled "SYNTHESISE."

Synthesising With AI

By the end of the exercise, the team had identified over 200 different viewpoints. With ChatGPT's assistance and some skilful prompting, we synthesised this collective thinking into seven concise themes, pinpointing areas where Generative AI could significantly impact their business.

A colorful infographic about ChatGPT, divided into sections such as understanding and writing text, writing code, and analyzing data, with various subsections detailing functions and capabilities of ChatGPT.

Generative AI Cheat Cards

With the ever increasing use cases for Generative AI, we then introduced the delegates to our Generative AI cheat cards, which cover a huge span of use cases grouped into key areas of functionality. These cards help with the next part of the workshop, ideation.

A slide explaining how to create an ideal audience profile, including issues, needs, desires, and objections, with a central icon labeled 'IDEATE'. Adjacent to this, an exercise worksheet titled 'Exercise (part 2)' with sections for table number, opportunity, target audience, challenges, and notes, outlining a 20-minute activity for brainstorming ideas.

Brainstorming With AI

After another insightful advanced prompting lesson explaining how to use ChatGPT as a brainstorm buddy, we launched into the next part of the session which was all centred around ideating - the fun part. Each table was tasked with a specific area to look into.

Slide with a title "Exercise 3: ChatGPT as your pitch partner", an image of a cartoon seal and a robot, and a list of prompts including "Pitch prompts," "Get a grilling," and "Seal the deal." To the right, instructions for creating a pitch deck with a slide template labeled "IDEA NAME" and spaces for content, alongside a section titled "Exercise" with tips for presenting with a maximum of two slides.

Pitching With AI

For the final exercise, the teams chose their strongest or favourite idea. They learned advanced prompting techniques with ChatGPT and Dall-E 3 to refine their pitches. The presentations were a workshop highlight—showcasing a variety of ideas and demonstrating how ChatGPT can enhance presentation skills akin to those of seasoned advertising professionals.

Group of people celebrating at a boat or cruise event, some wearing captain's hats and one person with a rainbow-colored wig, with water and cityscape visible outside the windows.

Crunch Time

The day ended with a vote and prize for the winning idea (the thought never occurred to us until now, but for the next session ChatGPT will be getting a vote too!).

Bring AI Use Cases to Life

Presentation slides with agenda, team photo, and charts on AI, business challenges, value mapping, and next steps in a conference room. The slides include sections on executive summary, business opportunities, value/effort mapping graph, and next steps for project planning.

(Days 6 to 10)

Functional Blueprint & Demo

With the Inform & Design components delivered, the client team were already finding ways to infuse Generative AI into their workflows (ChatGPT and Dalle in particular).

We provided a comprehensive write up of all the ideas captured, together with a feasibility assessment too. This provided a solid foundation for their generative AI roadmap.

In addition to the write up, we provided the client with a PoC Blueprint, which included details for how the selected PoC could be brought to life with a functioning demo to demonstrate the technology in practice - ready for Sprint 1!
